AI Overviews

AI Overviews (formerly Search Generative Experience or SGE) are AI-generated answer boxes Google displays at the top of search results for certain queries. They synthesize information from multiple web sources and sometimes cite the pages they drew from.

For publishers, AI Overviews are a double-edged sword. If your content is cited, you get visibility and potential click-throughs. If the overview fully answers the query without the user needing to click, you lose traffic. Sites with strong E-E-A-T signals and original data are more likely to be cited as sources.
